Following the 2022 shooting, security checkpoints were introduced at entrances to Orlando's entertainment district. However, after the enactment of a law upholding the constitutional right to concealed carry, these checkpoints were removed, Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith informed reporters.
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer declared a local state of emergency on Friday, instituting a curfew from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. and mandating that bars, clubs, and restaurants cease service by 1 a.m. These measures will remain in effect for at least one week.
"I am frustrated," Mayor Dyer expressed.
